Political wars switch to cyberspace; parties hire PR agencies

Thiruvananthapuram: The political parties in the state have chosen the cyber world as the new platform for political fights after the coronavirus outbreak. It is learned that most of the political parties have hired PR agencies to influence the public through online activities. All parties are spending crores of money on the cyber war.

Sources revealed that three multi-national PR companies based in Maharashtra have already started virtual political camapigns in Kerala. Small companies are also engaged in campaigning for the leaders who are likely to contest the elections.

Interestingly, groups of youngsters are also functioning to handle the social media accounts of leaders and political parties. IT companies consider the tool which analyses details on social media as the major element for the campaign.

Changes in politics

Politics is going to have major changes in the future. Now, it is turning an employment platform for people like senior journalists, political critics and those who are experienced in election survey. PR agencies are appointing such professionals by offering an attractive salary.

Knowledge in political subjects and skills in advising politicians on stance to influence the public is considered as the major criteria for the appointments. It is reported that the politicians are taking stance on various subjects with the help of such staff.

Cyber fighters

The political parties have their own cyber groups to avoid chances of mistakes in political stance while responding on social media. Each party has assigned certain leaders for this job.

War rooms

With the launch of virtual politics, parties are equipped with war rooms which include a visual library and records which include previous responses and party’s documents. These tools will be used for campaigns.

The PR agencies aim to ensure maximum reach of such political posts in the virtual community. A special team and social media groups are working for this purpose from the booth level to the state level.
