Thiruvananthapuram: The government has decided to deploy more young volunteers in the tourist destinations considering the safety of the visitors. The decision came up in the wake of the incident in which a foreigner was insulted by the police.

Tourism Minister PA Muhammed Riyas said that volunteers will be selected through the tourism clubs of colleges and members of youth welfare board. The recent water fest was held successfully. The cynical attitude of police when the tourism sector receives better momentum cannot be accepted, said the minister.

Grade SI TC Shaji, who was suspended after insulting a foreigner, had filed a complaint to the Chief Minister and DGP seeking withdrawal of suspension. He explained that there was no mistake on his part and he was performing his duty.
