Kozhikode: The police will give away ISI-marked helmets to replace the damaged helmets in accidents. This will be given if the mishap happened within Kozhikode city limits.

The helmets will be given away under a programme by the Kozhikode city traffic police in co-ordination with Suzuki Motors Pvt Ltd. The police are trying to expand the project to more areas.

But the helmet would be offered only if the accident takes place within Kozhikode city. In order to avail the new helmet, one just has to reach the police station after the accident along with a complaint and the broken helmet. This was announced by the police in their official Facebook page.

The police also informed that if someone meets with an accident with helmet and it gets damaged, then they can immediately contact the police in these numbers: 1099, 9497934724.

Traffice North ACP Raju said projects like these are developed to make people wear helmets while driving to avoid accidents. Last August, the police gave away helmets and also levied Rs 100 as fine to those who violated the traffic rules.

The programme was organized by the Kozhikode City police in co-ordination with Suzuki Motors Pvt Ltd. They also gave exciting gifts to the traffic violators. Police also gave ISI marked helmets to those who drove without wearing helmets.

The new programme is an extension of the old one to create awareness on the importance of wearing helmets.

The police report suggests that the accidents decrease as awareness programmes have been made stronger.
