Malappuram: Police here foiled the attempt to smuggle gold through Kozhikode international airport in Karipur. A team of police seized nearly 1 kg of gold from a passenger who managed to escape from the Customs inside the Airport. Kudallur native Sajeesh who came on the Air India Express flight from Dubai smuggled the gold as capsules by hiding it on his body. Police arrested Sajeesh and his friend Ponnani native Sudheesh after seizing the gold.
It is reported that Sajeesh managed to hide 1.167 Kg of gold inside his body and tried to escape from the Customs by cheating them. But the police who already received a tip-off about the smuggling reached the airport and nabbed Sajeesh and his friend who came to receive him.
During the medical examination, the gold mixture in capsule form was found inside his body. This is the eighth time police nabbed gold smugglers after the Aid post was established in the airport.
