Police refuse clearance certificate, officials deny passport to CPI Ernakulam district secretary
Kochi: Passport authorities denied new passport to P Raju, Ernakulam district secretary of CPI after police didn’t issue a clearance certificate. Non-bailable case was charged against P Raju in connection with a conflict that erupted in a CPI march in Ernakulam. Police denied clearance certificate based on this case.
P Raju applied for new passport to participate in an international conference organised in Damascus. The validity of his previous passport was over and applied to renew it.
A march organised by CPI to the office of Kochi Range IG had ended up in a scuffle. In the incident, many were injured including many CPI leaders and police officials. Following that, police registered case against CPI leaders including P Raju and Eldho Abraham MLA under non-bailable offence.
The conference is scheduled on September 8. As the police denied clearance certificate, Raju moved high court seeking interference in the matter.
