Kannur: Amid the nationwide crackdown on the Popular Front of India, the police here on Sunday carried out a raid at a hypermarket near Thana. A team of police led by Kannur SI raided the shop after receiving a tip-off on the shop’s links with PFI. As per the information received by the cops, a few partners of the hypermarket are linked with PFI.

Sources close to the police department hint that some more shops will be raided over suspected links with the radical outfit. The raid is being carried out as directed by Kannur ACP Rathnakumar.

On Friday, the Popular Front of India observed a hartal across Kerala a day after NIA raided its offices across the state and arrested some leaders. Like other districts, PFI supporters unleashed violence across Kannur during hartal. According to police, the violence during hartal confirmed the strength of PFI in Kannur. Observing this, police initiated action to identify PFI activists and their supporters in the district.
Many PFI activists were arrested in various parts of the country in the largest crackdown which was code-named as Operation Octopus.
