Police officers break into tears en masse at Thrissur station

The police station broke into tears after the CI issued memo to most of the officers one after the other. The memo demanded to show cause for delay in investigations.

Thrissur: It was deja vu for Rajamma, who walked into a police station here in the city, to find several police officers, both men and women, in tears. Rajamma herself had come to the station to file a complaint against her drunkard son for beating his wife and kids on a regular basis. Rajamma’s was an effort to put an end to the sobbing at her own house.

On stepping foot inside the station, a policewoman in tears who was wiping her face, walked past Rajamma. Taken aback, Rajamma looked around only to see another policeman weeping in one corner of the station. A closer inspection by Rajamma revealed another police officer in a corner of a room inside the station with tears running down his face.

Realising that something was amiss, Rajamma decided to return home without filing the complaint. When she turned around, a strong, firm voice from inside the station asked her – What do you want?

Rajamma looked to where the voice came from and saw the grim face of the station Circle Inspector (CI). “I came to file a complaint sir,” she replied. The CI asked her to wait outside for some time. Rajamma waited as instructed but the sobbing inside the station did not stop for a long time.

The police station broke into tears after the CI issued memo to most of the officers one after the other. The memo demanded to show cause for delay in investigations.

The police officers have to investigate 8-12 cases every month besides performing their regular duties. There is a shortage of personnel at the station much like the number of leaves they are granted. When the officers received the memo on top of all these, their hearts sank. The frustration and psychological exhaustion quickly gave way to tears.

On receiving the memo, a policeman started crying. On seeing him, three other officers also broke into tears. On seeing her colleagues in tears, the policewoman who had not received a memo, could not hold back her tears either.

Realising that the situation has gone out of control, the CI soon consoled all the crying officers and explained to them his helplessness in the matter. Only after that did the sobbing inside the station come to an end and Rajamma was able to file her complaint.
