Police officer, suspended on morality grounds, served show cause notice over FB post
Kozhikode: The civil police officer at Kozhikode control room, who was suspended from service for allegedly visiting a female friend’s flat regularly, has now been served a show cause notice.
CPO Umesh Vallikkunnu has been given the show cause notice over his Facebook post updated on September 12 regarding the bail of Pantheerankavu UAPA accused Alan Shuhaib and Thaha Faizal.
In his Facebook post, Umesh had written that all police officers should read the details of the NIA court’s verdict and that those who made fun of the youth upon their arrest should open their eyes. This is pointed out as the reason for the show cause notice.
The show cause notice mentioned that the post appears to support the UAPA accused and brought bad repute to the police force by ridiculing the decision to cut his increment as part of department-level action.
Special Branch ACP Sudarshan, who submitted the investigation report against Umesh for visiting his friend’s apartment, has filed the report on this Facebook post case.
Earlier, Umesh had posted another Facebook post criticising the authorities for cutting his increment after he posted the link of the movie ‘Kadu Pookkunna Neram’ in Facebook.
Umesh stated that he was served the show cause notice to target him after a higher-level inquiry has been launched against the City Police Commissioner in connection with his suspension.
