Kannur: The Kannur Town Police on Wednesday nabbed a man who triggered panic by making a fake bomb threat at the Kannur railway station.

The accused has been identified as PA Riyas (29), a native of Naluvayal, Kannur City. He had made a hoax call to the police control room on Tuesday around 8.30 pm saying a bomb was planted at the railway station.

Soon after, the town police, bomb squad and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) jointly inspected the area for hours. However, no explosives were found.

Meanwhile, an investigation centred around the phone number revealed the caller’s location as Kannur City. Following which, a team of police officials, led by Town sub inspector CH Naseeb, nabbed the accused with the help of a mobile shop owner.

Riyas, who was taken into custody, told police that he had made the call as a prank. Apparently, the man, who works as a cleaner in flats, was drunk at the time of the incident.
