Kollam: The Kollam East Police have arrested a notorious criminal, Anas (34), who was involved in multiple cases of motor vehicle theft, chain snatching and other criminal activities. Anas, who hailed from Edamala, was apprehended by the police on Saturday night while attempting to flee on a stolen bike from the premises of the MEMU Shed depot. The police have also confiscated a bag from him containing several tools used for stealing vehicles.
A person with the same name as Anas from Kozhikode was also assisting him in his criminal activities. However, he managed to escape from the scene when the police chased them down.
According to police, the accused is facing several cases across the state and had plans to attempt more thefts in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts. The accused also revealed that he and his accomplice recently stole a vehicle from Sultan Bathery and snatched a chain from Kottayam's Karukachal.
After meeting in jail, Anas and the Kozhikode native formed a gang named 'Anas and Anas.' They have been involved in approximately 25 thefts that fall under the jurisdiction of various police stations.
The accused was nabbed by a special team constituted by Assistant Police Commissioner Abhilash to arrest culprits behind vehicle thefts in the district.
