Kochi: Police have intensified search for the man in connection with the murder of a woman inside a rented house in Elamkulam on Tuesday.
A woman, yet to be identified, was found dead inside a rented house, with her neck severed and body wrapped in a plastic cover.
According to the house owner, she rented the house with the man claiming to be her husband. However, the police are unable to track him or uncover his identity. Currently, the police are trying to trace him using the phone number he had given to the owner.
Police also suspect that the woman and the man might be citizens of Nepal. Further, the identification documents given to the owner while hiring the house were found to be fake.
They lived in the house for the past one-and-half years. The house owner also told police that the couple often quarrelled. The house owner also had asked them to vacate the house. For the past five days, they were missing from the place. However, locals informed the police after a foul smell started to emanate from the house.
In the past two-and-half months, eight murders occurred in Kochi. In the first week of August, a Kollam native was stabbed to death near the Ernakulam town hall.
Following this, seven murders, including the recent death in Elamkulam, occurred in various parts of the city. Police officials said these are only isolated incidents and have nothing to do with organised crime.
