Munnar: Janamaithri police have introduced a new system to stop littering tourist spot with plastic bottles. Iron boxes were arranged in various parts of the town to collect empty plastic bottles.

As part of the first phase of the project, these boxes were placed in five busy spots in the town on Saturday.

“We have planned to arrange the boxes with private partnership in 15 more places in the town,” said DySP M Ramesh Kumar.

Bottles disposed on the boxes will be collected by the panchayat authority and recycled at the centre in Adimaly.

The iron boxes were placed as part of the Munnar beautification project.
