Accused, who attacked the police, the house where they were hiding
Kollam: Police fired at goons who swung machetes at them in Kollam. Police were at Kollam’s Padappakara to arrest the accused in the Adoor rest house attack case. Three of the accused attacked them. One of them was arrested, but the other two escaped by jumping into a lake nearby. Kundara police stated that even though four rounds were fired, no one got shot.
The incident took place at around 3 am on Saturday. A team of officials led by Infopark CI Vipin Das reached Padappakara after receiving information that Antony and Lijo, accused in the rest house attack case, were hiding in the area. This is reportedly a regular hiding spot of the accused.
The accused tried to escape while police surrounded the house they were hiding in. They swung machetes at the police when officials followed them. To escape from the accused, the CI fired four rounds. Following this, Antony and Lijo jumped into the lake. Another accused in the case, who was with them, was taken into custody by the police.
Antony and Lijo are accused in several criminal cases. Antony was in jail for six months and recently got released. After this, he got involved in the abduction case in relation to marijuana smuggling, police said. Police have intensified searches to find the accused who escaped.
Police had arrested five people in relation to the abduction and attack on a youth at Kakkanad. Police received information on the involvement of more people in the abduction case from those who were arrested.
