From CCTV visuals
Kozhikode: The police have committed a serious lapse in collecting evidence against the DYFI workers who allegedly attacked a security guard at Kozhikode Govt.Medical College. The CCTV visuals of the DYFI workers assaulting a security guard at Kozhikode Medical College reportedly got deleted from the hard disk. Earlier, the police team probing the case submitted a request to the Medical college authorities to hand over the hard drive containing CCTV footage of the incident.
However, the medical college authorities said the footage is lost since visuals are stored in the hard drive for only 12 days. They criticised the police for failing to submit an application on time. The CCTV footage of the incident is crucial evidence in the case.
The incident relating to the case took place on August 31. A gang of DYFI men attacked the security guard following a quarrel over restricting a couple from visiting the medical superintendent.
However, the Medical College SHO filed an application demanding CCTV footage before the Medical Superintendent on September 16. Medical Superintendent said that CCTV footage would only remain on the hard drive for 12 days and it will get deleted automatically.
Meanwhile, the police only hold a duplicate of the original visuals copied earlier. Following this, the defendant's lawyer alleged in court that the police produced an edited copy of the visuals.
