Kochi: Police have collected CCTV footage of the massive fire that broke out in Brahmapuram solid waste treatment plant. As per the visuals, it is clear that the fire initially started in sector 1 of the plant.

The officials will also examine whether someone had intentionally set the dumping yard on fire. Earlier, opposition leader VD Satheesan claimed that someone poured petrol over the waste dump and set it ablaze.

Earlier, there were reports that CCTVs in Brahmapuram plant premises were not functional. However, the police said they collected enough footage from CCTVs around the plant.

The plant officials and contract company Zonta Infratech initially claimed that a fire broke out in sector 1. The fire started around 4 PM on March 2 and spread quickly. Recently, Zonta Infratech started the biomining process in sector 1. The fire broke out near the area where biomining equipment was installed.
