Pathanamthitta: Cops from Kottayam’s Mundakayam police station who were chasing a notorious criminal ended their pursuit with a dramatic climax.

The team led by CI had been tracking Thiruvallam Unni, accused in 42 criminal cases. On Monday morning Unni was seen approaching from Adoor in a luxurious jeep. The officials followed him and realizing that Unni tried to escape. He was speeding in the jeep and the police chased him.

Unni’s jeep hit four other vehicles but he did not stop. He took the vehicle to Valavettupara. Apparently, by the time police reached, he left the vehicle and fled the scene.

Interestingly, the officials found a cop from Pathanamthitta woman police station in the vehicle.

According to the explanation given by the woman cop to authorities, she had been waiting for a vehicle on the Adoor road to reach Pathanamthitta. A traffic police official stopped the jeep and asked her to get into the vehicle to reach the destination.

Another version is that Unni’s jeep had hit her vehicle on the road and she was bringing him to Pathanamthitta station.

The woman cop also said that he fled the scene. It is learnt that Unni borrowed Rs 100 and a T-shirt from a nearby house.

Meanwhile, the conduct of the cop and happenings related to the incident are raising more questions.
