Police charge N Prasanth IAS for insulting journalist
Kochi: Ernakulam Central Police registered a case against N Prasanth IAS for insulting womanhood after he allegedly made a vulgar remark against a female journalist on WhatsApp.
The remark was made when a journalist from Mathrubhumi approached the officer seeking information on deep sea fishing. The officer had reportedly sent abusive stickers and there were widespread protests against this. On the basis of a complaint, police registered a case.
Police, after finishing preliminary inquiry, sought legal advice from the Directorate of Prosecution to register a case against him. A go ahead consent was received to book case on the basis of an observation that journalists approach officers to collect information as part of their profession. Officials can deny or provide information but are not supposed to misbehave.
