Police brutally beat up cancer affected auto driver
Anchal (Kollam): A complaint filed with the Punalur DySP said that an autorickshaw driver who is affected by cancer was brutally beaten up by police. It was on Saturday evening, home guard on duty at the RO Junction in Anchal took Rajesh (30) and his three-wheeler into custody.
Rajesh and his vehicle were taken into custody after he was stopped at a junction and passengers asked to alight from the vehicle. After reaching the Anchal police station, two police personnel handcuffed him and thrashed him. In the incident, Rajesh sustained a minor injury on his shoulder bone.
After getting bail with the help of his wife and relatives, Rajesh took medical treatment at Punalur Taluk Hospital. Later, he was admitted to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College for further treatment.
According to police, the home guard stopped the auto as it was driven dangerously. Rajesh was taken into custody after finding him drunk and having no license. Further, police registered a case for dangerous driving on busy road without a license. By 7pm, he was released on bail.
On Sunday morning, Rajesh went to the station and demanded his vehicle. Police replied that as a case was registered the autorickshaw will be returned only through the court. Police also said that they haven’t beaten him.
