Man steals gold chain in morning, sells it by noon, nabbed by police in evening

Kasaragod: Kasaragod Town police nabbed a man within hours of stealing one-and-a-half sovereigns of gold from a jewellery store here. The accused is Thodupuzha native Joby George (40), who works as a casino agent in Goa.

Joby, who arrived at a jewellery store in Kasaragod town at 11.45 am on Friday, bought jewellery worth Rs 61,766 and deceived the staff saying the payment was done through UPI application. It was after checking the bank account, they confirmed that the amount had not been paid. They immediately reported the theft to the Kasaragod Town police.

Following the theft, the accused had gone to Kanhangad and immediately sold the gold at a jewellery here for Rs 54,500. Through the investigation proceeded with the help of CCTV visuals, police arrested Joby by evening from the vicinity of the jewellery in Kanhangad. Police said that the accused, who reached Kasaragod in connection with his work, had robbed jewellery when his money ran out.
