Police block union minister’s escort vehicle
Pampa: Police blocked the escort vehicle of union minister Pon Radhakrishnan while he was returning after having darshan at Sabarimala. The vehicle was blocked near Pampa KSRTC bus stand at around 1 am mistaking it to be the vehicle of protesters.
The minister was travelling in a private car. BJP leader A. N. Radhakrishnan also was in the vehicle. There were three vehicles in the minister’s convoy. The last vehicle in the convoy arrived a little later, which in turn led to suspicion and the police blocked it. On knowing this, the minister returned to the spot, as explained by the police.
Later, the issue was resolved by SP Harisankar who is in-charge of Pampa. SP informed that the vehicle was blocked as they were in search of a person. Then the minister demanded a written note stating police had arrested him by mistake.
The SP replied that nobody was arrested and vehicle checking was a normal procedure. Later, Pampa CI gave a check report. The minister and his escort resumed their journey after 45 minutes.
Meanwhile, the police explained that the minister’s vehicle was not blocked, but only one of his escort vehicles.
The minister and his escort descended the hills after the shrine was closed. The minister had also joined the Namajapa protesters in front of the police station at Sannidhanam at 10 in the night.
Earlier, a controversy had broken out when SP Yathish Chandra blocked union minister Pon Radhakrishnan at Nilakkal on Wednesday. There was criticism that the protocol was not followed when the minister arrived. This incident took place soon after this.
