Thiruvananthapuram: The attempt of the police to evict a woman and her child based on her husband’s complaint led to widespread criticism. The police action was taken against Ayirupara native Shamna on a complaint filed by her husband Shafi Azeez. The police action was backed by the high court order.

However, the news aired by Mathrubhumi News was noticed by State Women’s Commission. As they intervened in the issue, police withdrew from their procedures. Shamna, who said she has no other place to go if evicted, also raised a suicide threat.

Shamna stated that she is being evicted on the basis of a fake complaint and that she and her husband are not even divorced. Shamna, her six-year-old son and her parents are residing at the house for the last five years. According to Shafi’s complaint, they are staying in his house without permission.

Shamna’s husband was married to another woman earlier. He married Shamna after getting separated from her. Shamna alleged that he later married a Thrissur native woman without her consent. Following this, she approached the family court and obtained permission for staying at the house.

But Shafi’s mother approached the high court concealing the family court’s order and obtained a verdict in their favour. The police had tried to evict Shamna twice based on this verdict, but had to return due to public protest.
