Kochi: Police arrested the man who allegedly uploaded the fake video of the LDF candidate in Thrikkakara byelection, Dr Jo Joseph. The accused has been identified as Kottakkal (Malappuram) native Abdul Latheef. Investigation team nabbed him from Coimbatore.
Police informed that Abdul Latheef is a follower of Muslim League. He had uploaded the video on Twitter through a fake profile made for this purpose. It was on Monday night the Twitter authority handed over the details of the fake profile of Abdul Latheef to the investigation officer.
Following the arrest of Abdul Latheef, CPM Kerala state secretariat member M Swaraj slammed the opposition leader VD Satheesan and demanded him to apologise for all his responses in connection to the spread of the fake video on the social media. It has been proved that the accused who uploaded the video is a part of UDF, said Swaraj.
Talking to Mathrubhumi News, Satheesan said that he stands by his accusation that CPM is behind the cyber attack.
The opposition leader had demanded the police to arrest the person who uploaded the video to social media. "The accuser will become the accused if they arrest the perpetrator," he had said. Police have already arrested many, including two Congress workers, for spreading the video on social media.
Meanwhile, the polling for the Thrikkakara byelection is underway. The constituency recorded more than 20 per cent of the vote till 10 in the morning. Polling will end at 6 pm.
