Police arrest son following death of tribal woman in Kozhikode

Perambra: Police arrested a man in connection with the death of a tribal woman at Muthukad in Chakkittapara panchayat. Ambalakunnu Janu (55) was found dead on Wednesday morning in her bedroom. The autopsy report revealed that she was beaten up with a stick by her son before being strangled to death.

Following a detailed probe, Peruvannamuzhi police confirmed that her elder son Aneesh (37) killed her. The accused confessed to the crime during interrogation. Police informed that Janu and Aneesh used to consume liquor and broke into quarrel often. The neighbours said they had heard noises of brawl between them on Tuesday also. Two years ago, a case had been registered against Aneesh for hacking his mother with a machette.

A new house was built for Janu under the government scheme for constructing houses for poor. Janu slept in this house at night, while Aneesh and his wife in the nearby old house.
