Police arrest Arjun Ayanki from hideout at CPM ‘party village’ in Kannur

Malappuram: Police arrested accused Arjun Ayanki, former DYFI leader and accused in Ramanattukara gold smuggling case, in connection with gold ‘busting’ (pottikal) case in Karipur airport.

Ayanki was arrested from his hideout in Peringala, a CPM ‘party village’ in Kannur, on Friday night. The intervention was based on intelligence inputs received by Kondotty police.

The case was registered a month back and Ayanki was named the first accused. According to the case, Ayanki, among others, tried to snatch and smuggle 975 gm gold from a carrier who acted on behalf of another smuggler(busting bid).

The officials have been in search of Ayanki for long and probe team even visited other states. The new development comes amid this.

Customs had arrested Arjun Ayanki in connection with the Karipur gold smuggling case. The arrest was based on the findings that Ayanki has links with the international gold smugglers and the local quotation gangs in the state. He had been on bail and the arrest comes in the new case.
