Police arrest adivasis who reached CM’s venue to submit plea
Wadakancherry: Police arrested a few adivasis who reached the venue of chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s inauguration of a village fair to submit a petition on Monday. Olakara Colony inmate P K Ratheesh, P Raju from Muthalamada and P Manikandan from Kollenkode were arrested on Monday evening.
The Gadhika Folk Fair being held for the Scheduled Tribe people including adivasis began on Monday and Ratheesh and Raju had reached the venue to submit a petition to the CM on various demands of the villagers. Protestors undertaking a stir for land at Kattapara also accompanied them.
The three persons were waiting behind the stage to submit the petition when they were forcefully removed by the police. Ratheesh said the local people were taken by surprise and the police resorted to examining them to the extent of removing their dhoti. And after that, they were taken to the Wadakanchery police station.
Police seized from their bag notices printed in support of the Adivasi stir. Alathur DySP V S Muhammed Kasim said the police feared that the posters may be distributed among the audience and the protestors might wave black flags against the CM and hence they arrested them.
When the protestors were taken to the station, Kattapara Colony Moopan Velayudhan-led team marched towards the station and the woman staged a sit in in front of the station. Police let free the arrested persons after the function ended and the CM left the venue.
