Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Students Federation (KSU) announced a state-wide education bandh on Tuesday. Earlier, KSU members, including state leaders, were injured after police lathi-charged their protest march to the state secretariat. Following this, KSU announced a strike in protest of alleged police brutality.
The secretariat march, inaugurated by opposition leader VD Satheesan, called for safeguarding the higher education sector in the state. However, police tried to stop the march soon after Satheesan ended his speech.
KSU workers and police men were injured in the skirmishes that followed. Further, police also arrested a few KSU workers who were later remanded by court. Following this, KSU called for a state-wide education strike on Tuesday.
