Pointing out lapses in rescue ops is duty of Opposition: Chennithala
Chengannur: Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala said that the government has to pay more attention to the disaster relief camps. There have been complaints that many camps are in short of doctors and that no revenue personnel are present there.
Lack of essential items also is reported from many camps. This is time that demands a collective effort. Still there are many people to be rescued in many places, he said while addressing the media after visiting the flood-hit areas in Chengannur.
The rescue operations can be made more effective only if army presence is strengthened. The distress of people will be brought to the attention of government. It is the responsibility of the opposition to point out the lapses of the government. No politics is involved in it.
I appreciate the fishermen who actively took part in the rescue operations. We cannot even imagine the situation if they did not participate in the rescue activities.
People need not be panic in the present circumstances. Congress and UDF workers will actively help in all tasks including cleaning up, he said. Chennithala visited the flood-hit areas along with former Chengannur MLA P. C. Vishnunath.
