Kuttanad: Poet and lyricist Beeyar Prasad (61) passed away on Wednesday. He was being treated for brain haemorrhage at Kottayam Medical College hospital.

He had been resting following kidney transplant. A few days ago, he faced discomfort while attending a television programme in the state capital. Later, he was diagnosed with brain haemorrhage.

He was about to finish a novel. ‘Chandrolsavam’, his novel published by Mathrubhumi Books, had captured the attention of readers.

In 1993, Prasad wrote the screenplay for a children’s film. It was his first association with the industry. In 2003, he penned the lyrics for the songs in Mohanlal’s ‘Kilichundan Mampazham’. His hit songs include 'Onnam Kili Ponnan Kili', 'Kasavinte Thattamittu', ‘Kera Nirakaladum’ and ‘Mazhathullikal Pozhinjeedumee’.

His last work was for Lal Jose’s ‘Thattin Purach Achuthan’, released in 2018.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Assembly Speaker A N Shamseer, and and Leader of Opposition in the House D Satheesan, condoling the death, said it was an irreparable loss to art and culture.

In their respective statements, they said Prasad won a place in the heart of Malayalees with his movie songs.
