POCSO case: Football coach sentenced to 52 years in prison


Perumbavoor: A fast-track POCSO court here on Monday sentenced a football coach to 52 years in jail after finding him guilty of sexually abusing minor boys. The convict is identified as 47-year-old Shaji, a resident of Thevara.

The Puthenkurish police registered the case in 2018. As per the case, the football coach sexually assaulted the boys after taking them to Kolanchery and Mazhuvannoor.

He moved to hideouts in Mumbai, Chennai, Pune, Delhi and Kashmir after the police registered the case.

The then Puthenkurish inspector Sajan Xavier filed the charge sheet in December 2019. In August, he was convicted in a similar case and sentenced to 32 years in jail.
