New Delhi: The Prime Minister’s office has sought an explanation from the Palakkad district administration on enforcing an order to ban RSS leader Mohan Bhagwat from hoisting the national flag on the Independence Day.
RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat had unfurled the tricolour at a school in Palakkad flouting an order of the district administration banning him from doing it. District collector Mary Kutty had restrained the school from allowing Bhagwat to hoist the flag, saying it was not proper for a political leader to hoist the national flag in a government-aided school.
The BJP had written a letter to the prime minister stating that the basic citizen rights of celebrating Independence Day has been denied and of creating divisive politics. The BJP district president, in his complaint, said that the order that only elected representatives can hoist national flag has no legal backing.
The PMO had sought a clarification from the chief secretary based on a complaint filed by the BJP Palakkad district president.
