PMA Salam
Malappuram: PMA Salam has been re-elected as general secretary of the Kerala faction of the Indian Union Muslim League on Saturday. The final decision came after the party’s high-level committee meeting held at League House in Kozhikode. The same will be announced at the state council meeting.
State president Panakkad Sayyid Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal suggested Salam’s name within the initial moments of the meeting. MP ET Mohammed Basheer and PV Abdul Wahab raised disagreement. However, other members did not back up the disagreement. It is learnt that the support and influence of MLA PK Kunhalikutty turned crucial for Salam’s continued tenure.
Interestingly, even before the meeting, Salam’s second term was highly speculated. All district committees except Kozhikode reportedly supported Salam for the post. Only the Kozhikode district committee proposed MK Muneer, MLA, as state general secretary, said sources.
Salam was given the charge of state general secretary following KPA Majeed’s election to the state Assembly in 2021. Though Salam was not widely accepted among a section of leaders, the general feeling is that he managed organisational activities like membership distribution competently.
