Shri M. P. Veerendra Kumar Ji is not physically amongst us, but the values and ideals instilled by him would continue to guide the family members, the PM wrote.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sent a letter to Mathrubhumi Joint Managing Director MV Shreyams Kumar expressing condolences on the death of the latter’s father MP Veerendara Kumar, who passed away on Thursday.

I am anguished to learn about the passing away of your father and my fellow Parliamentarian, Shri, M. P. Veerendra Kumar Ji. My heartfelt condolences to the family and well-wishers in this hour of intense grief.

In public life, Shri Veerendra Kumar Ji always strived towards the upliftment of the poor and disadvantaged sections of the society with unflinching dedication. Under his visionary stewardship, Mathrubhumi Group grew into one of the leading media houses of the nation that helped shape the cultural domain of modern Kerala with its deep imprint. Influenced by the philosophy of Loknayak Jayprakash Narayan and legendary Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia, he fearlessly resisted the trying times of Emergency to uphold the freedom of expression and democratic ethos of the nation.

Blessed with a multi-faceted personality, Veerendra Ji was a prolific author and remarkable environmentalist. As a water warrior, he always championed the cause of water conservation to ensure a water-secure future for coming generations.

Shri M. P. Veerendra Kumar Ji is not physically amongst us, but the values and ideals instilled by him would continue to guide the family members. I pray to the Almighty to impart strength to the bereaved members of the family, as well as to the multitude of his well-wishers to endure this grievous loss.

May the departed soul rest in peace. Om Shanti, the PM’s letter read.
