New Delhi: A petition has been filed before the Supreme Court seeking to grant a stop for Kerala's Vande Bharat Express in Malappuram district. The petitioner, Tirur native PT Shijish, alleges that the train was denied a stop in Malappuram for political reasons.

Malappuram has the highest population density in Kerala. As per the initial timetable released by the railways, Vande Bharat Express was granted stop in Tirur. However, the decision was withdrawn later and a stop allotted in Shoranur, noted the petition.

Previously, the Kerala High Court had dismissed Shijish's petition seeking a stop for the express at Tirur. The current plea, filed through advocates Sreeram Parakkad and MS Vishnu Shankar, also demands to revoke the HC decision.
