PK Firoz alleges Jaleel blackmailed Kodiyeri over appointing Koliyakode's relative
Kozhikode: Youth League state general secretary has come out with another allegation of blackmail against minister KT Jaleel on Thursday. He alleged that Jaleel had blackmailed CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan over the appointment of deputy director (technical) of Information Kerala Mission (IKM) which comes under the local self-government department.
PK Firoz pointed out that DS Neelakandan who was appointed as technical deputy director of IKM is the son of CPM leader Damodharan Nair who is the brother of CPM leader Koliyakode Krishnan Nair. He noted that the appointment was made when Kodiyeri Balakrishnan was the home minister. Kodiyeri and his assistant private secretary MK Raghavan intervened for the appointment.
When nepotism charges were raised against KT Jaleel, he blackmailed Kodiyeri to protect him and CPM protected him without raising a finger at him, said PK Firoz at a press meet here.
Earlier, the department had invited application for the post of director general. But Neelakandan failed to apply for the post as he was working in a private firm. Though many people applied, the department did not consider anyone as Neelakandan did not apply.
Later, another post of deputy director (technical) was created and notification was issued inviting applications. A monthly salary of Rs 1 lakh was fixed. A list was prepared by selecting 13 people from the 37 applicants.
A candidate, Santhosh Melakalathil, was the frontrunner for the post but the interview board gave a low score to him. Later, Neelakandan was appointed.
Usually, an appointment on contract basis is made for one year. But Neelakandan was appointed for 5 years and 10 percent salary hike was also given to him, alleged Firoz.
He also noted that the department has not sought the permission of finance department or the government while appointing Neelakandan.
