Pineapple price hits new high, Rs 60 per kg for last two weeks

Kochi: The price of pineapples that went up to Rs 60 per kg owing to the onset of festive season in Kerala has not come down yet. The price was Rs 52 per kg on September 1. From September 5, the price rose to Rs 60 per kg. There has been no change in the price for over two weeks now.

The festive season in Kerala overlaps with the wedding season which results in increased demand for the fruit. The decrease in production also amounts to the rise in demand. The Pineapple Growers Association said that it is the first time the price of pineapple has hit Rs 60 per kg.

The fruit has demand in Kerala. The orders coming in from northern states have also increased.
