Pinarayi Vijayan writes to PM Modi seeking effective probe into gold smuggling case


Stating that there is more than one angle to the crime, the CM urged that an effective and coordinated probe by all central agencies concerned was needed.

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking his immediate intervention to conduct an effective investigation into the diplomatic baggage gold smuggling case.

The attempt to smuggle huge quantities of gold through diplomatic baggage is an extremely serious matter. It is learnt that the customs department is probing the incident. The crime has serious implications and could affect the nation’s economy itself, the letter said.

Stating that there is more than one angle to the crime, the CM urged that an effective and coordinated probe by all central agencies concerned was needed.

Pinarayi VIjayan said that the probe must cover all aspects of the crime from the source to the end utilisation. Every link of this crime should be unravelled so that such incidents do not happen again, he added.

The CM assured all assistance and support from the state government to the agencies involved in the probe.

Pinarayi Vijayan has also sent a letter to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman seeking an investigation into the case.
