Thiruvananthapuram: In a surprise move, the Kerala government has agreed for a discussion on the SilverLine project in the Assembly. The discussion will be held from 1 pm- 3 pm.
PC Vishnunadh MLA on Monday moved a notice for an adjournment motion on the matter. Replying to the motion, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan agreed to have a discussion. Speaker MB Rajesh gave approval for the motion.
The opposition has been accusing the government of evading debate in the Assembly over the ambitious semi-high speed rail project. Pinarayi had said that the legislators discussed the matter during the time of the previous Assembly. The pressure from political and social spheres was mounting on the government for a detailed discussion on the matter. The surprise move comes amidst this.
The previous Pinarayi government also is known for allowing selected motions of the opposition against the trend of outright denial. This often made the opposition stunned as the treasury bench would be more prepared in such situations.
