Pilgrims flock Pampa ahead of Sabarimala nada opening
Pampa: Pilgrims flocked to the foothills of Sabarimala on the first day of the Makaravilakku festival.
Thousands of pilgrims reached Pampa well ahead of nada opening at 5 pm on Sunday. Due to safety reasons, pilgrims were allowed to enter the trekking path only after 2 pm.
KSRTC buses from Nilakkal were allowed to start services only from 11.30 am. Large number of pilgrims had reached Nilakkal in the previous days and had been camping there. Several of them did not wait for the buses to start service and reached Pampa on foot on Sunday.
Around 3,000 pilgrims are still at Nilakkal waiting to reach Pampa and the police are struggling to control the crowd. The Sabarimala nada had closed on December 27 night after mandala poojas.
