Pickpockets from Tamil Nadu find their way into Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra

Thiruvananthapuram: A pickpocketing gang from Tamil Nadu found its way into the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’, led by Congress leader and Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi. The pickpockets were identified by police using CCTV footage.

The yatra on Monday progressed from Vellayani junction in Nemom to Pattom. Two members of the yatra had complained to the police that their wallets were lost. In the investigation that followed, it was revealed that a pickpocketing gang was present in the yatra.

Thiruvananthapuram police commissioner informed that the gang will be arrested soon. It is being investigated whether the gang had found its way into the yatra from its starting point in Kanyakumari.

The police have collected photos of four people who are suspected to be a part of the gang. The police have also received visuals showing them engaging in pickpocketing in two places. The suspects have been involved in several theft cases before. Their names are on the police list, which helped in narrowing down the suspects.

Bharat Jodo Yatra attracted a multitude on the second day as well. The second day’s yatra ended at St Mary's Higher Secondary School in Pattom. The yatra will resume at 4 pm on Monday and end at Kazhakkoottam.
