This photographer held his camera till his last breath

Haripad: Pallippad native Vijayakumar (62), a man who devoted his life to photography, breathed his last with a camera in his hands. Vijayakumar's bedridden mother, Ammukutty Amma kept talking for hours without realising that her son had passed away.

Vijayakumar was passionate about photography. He captured pictures of everything with his camera and often times sent them to editors to get published in dailies.

Vijayakumar, fondly called reporter Vijayan by his close acquaintances, was the photographer at public functions held in Haripad. Though he used to take pictures during such events, he rarely got paid. He was living in rented houses one after another along with his mother.

Vijayakumar lived to satisfy his mother’s simple needs like going to the temple every day. She was bedridden after a recent fall. His neighbour went to their house after noticing that the light in their house switched on even at noon. He saw Vijayakumar lying down with his head on the table and hands around his camera.

Though Vijayakumar was rushed to the hospital by the locals, he was declared dead by the doctor.

He is the son of late Sreedharan Pillai. Harikumar, Sasi, Geethakumari and Nandakumar are his siblings. His last rites will be performed at 2 pm on Sunday.
