Mattanur: Several incidents of violence erupted in Kannur district in the wake of the state-wide hartal called by the Popular Front of India (PFI) on Friday. Petrol bombs were hurled at the RSS office in Sivapuram near Mattanur and at a bike rider in Uliyil. Police took two PFI workers into custody in possession of a petrol bomb in Kalyassery.
Meanwhile, PFI workers were assaulted by the public for allegedly forcing shops to close in support of its hartal in Payyanur. These workers were later taken into custody by the police.
Since Friday morning, incidents were reported from Mattanur, Valapattanam, Muzhukunnu, Kannapuram, Kadachira, and Kannur town areas. Further, 20 cases were registered, and 40 people were taken into custody in the district.
