PFI activists nabbed in Kottayam for unleashing attacks on hartal day

Kottayam: Police nabbed two Popular Front and SDPI activists who had allegedly hurled stones at a bakery and broke the glass panes in Kottamuri, Kottayam on the day of hartal. The accused were identified as Mattom native Nasarulla and Noottonnu Kavala native Shameer Salim. Both of them reached on bike and hurled stones at the bakery.

Two PFI workers were arrested in Thellakom for hurling stones at a KSRTC bus. The suspects are Shahul Hameed from Perumbaikkad and Muhammed Rafi from Noottonnu Kavala. Both attacks were reported under Ettumanoor police station limits. The arrest of the accused were recorded by evening. All the four accused will be produced in the court on Tuesday.

As many as 309 cases have been registered in the state in connection with the violence on hartal day. At least 1404 PFI activists were arrested and 834 persons were kept under preventive detention. With 34 cases, Malappuram district recorded maximum number of cases. According to the data released by the police department, 215 persons were arrested on the basis of 28 registered cases in Kottayam district.
