Petition over Kadakampally Surendran's wife's Guruvayur temple entry; HC seeks report from police
Kochi: Kerala High Court has sought a report from police over a petition demanding to register a case against Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran’s wife for entering Guruvayur temple violating COVID protocol.
The petitioner claimed that the minister’s wife visited the temple when entry for the public was banned.
Kadakampally Surendran’s wife Sulekha Surendran, daughter-in-law and devaswom board authorities had visited the temple in connection with Guruvayur ‘Ekadasi’. The petitioner claimed that this was in violation of COVID protocol. The petition was filed by BJP leader Nagesh.
Devotees were banned from entering places of worship at one stage as part of the COVID protocol. Kadakampally’s wife and others entered the temple and had darshan twice when the COVID regulations were in place. Nagesh demanded that a case should be filed against Kadakampally’s wife as it was in violation of protocol.
The petitioner also made it clear that he approached the High Court as the police department did not file a case despite his complaint. It was following this that the High Court sought a report from the police. The court will consider the case again on December 14.
