New Delhi: A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking to transfer the trial in the murder of RSS activist and OBC Morcha state secretary Ranjith Sreenivas to a court outside Alappuzha. The 15 SPDI activists, who are accused in the case, filed the transfer petition.

Ranjith Sreenivas was an advocate in the Alappuzha bar council. Protesting the murder, lawyers in Alappuzha court informed that they would not appear for the accused. The accused approached the Kerala High Court seeking to transfer the trial to another district. The high court then transferred the case to Mavelikkara additional sessions court.

The accused, however, approached the top court saying the Mavelikkara court was part of Alappuzha and the case had to be shifted to another district. Advocate MR Ramesh Babu filed the petition on behalf of the accused.
