Kollam: Considering the increasing reports of Dengue cases in the state, the Department of Health said that those who turn negative in the Covid test must necessarily take the dengue fever test. The test will be mandatory for persons who show symptoms in the dengue reported regions.

Usually dengue spreads considerably once every three years. In view of this, the Health Department expects a surge this year.

However, when compared to last year, there was less number of dengue cases in the state this year. New dengue cases have been reported in all districts and in some locales and a cluster of people too were affected by the disease. In such regions, blood test of persons who turned Covid negative revealed dengue symptoms.

Recently, the central government warned of a high risk for a more dangerous type of dengue spread in 11 states including Kerala. States were requested to undertake special action plans in each district to control the disease. Thereby, the Health Department has been alerted to find and decimate the source in regions with high vector density and conduct fogging.
