Permanent helipad in Guruvayur; to be inaugurated with arrival of PM Modi
Guruvayur: A permanent helipad is under construction at Guruvayur where VIPs make frequent visits. The helipad is being built at a high area close to the ground of Sree Krishna College where the helicopters land presently. With the arrival of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Guruvayur on Saturday, the helipad will be inaugurated.
Collector T. V. Anupama visited the site on Monday and gave directions for the helipad. PWD is in charge of the construction. Since the place is under Guruvayur Devaswom, the collector held discussions with Devaswom chairman K. B. Mohandas also.
At present, the ground is being levelled for the construction of helipad. Tarring will commence within two days. All trees in the area will be chopped down. Electric and telephone posts will be replaced with underground cables.
The demand for a helipad in Guruvayur has been raising for many years. The sports ground in Sree Krishna College is temporarily used as helipad. The spot turns into a water puddle during rainy seasons.
A similar situation happened when President Ram Nath Kovind arrived to visit Guruvayur temple last year. He had to land the helicopter in Kuttanellur and reach Guruvayur by car.
