Thodupuzha: The water level in the Mullaperiyar dam has reached the highest of this year. Two more shutters of the spillways of the dam were opened on Tuesday as the level touched 141.4 ft. This is besides the five shutters that are already opened.
Rain in the catchment area has no respite. Residents near the Periyar river are alerted about the raise in the water level in the river. At present, 4,000 cubic ft of water is being released.
All shutters are raised by 30 cm, the Idukki district collector said in a Facebook post. The water level of Periyar may raise by 75 cm, he said.
