Kochi: Perinthalmanna sub collector and returning officer Sree Dhanya Suresh filed a report in the High Court asserting that 482 valid postal vote ballots went missing from the box in Perinthalmanna assembly constituency.

As many as 482 valid postal vote ballots in the fifth table could not be recovered, read the report. The court proceedings over the Perinthalmanna election petition, which is under the consideration of Kerala High Court, will be affected by the missing ballot box.

The petition was submitted by the LDF supported independent candidate KPM Musthafa questioning the electoral win of Perinthalmanna MLA Najeeb Kanthapuram. Najeeb Kanthapuram had won with a majority of only 38 votes. The petitioner pointed out that 340 postal votes have not been counted citing technical issues. Nearly 300 votes in these uncounted votes were cast in favour of him, he said. The High Court will consider the petition on January 31.

The documents of election in the Perinthalmanna constituency were brought to the High Court on Tuesday. The report submitted along with the documents revealed the absence of ballots with 482 votes.
