People with fever symptoms advised to stay away from Attukal Pongala: Health Minister
Thiruvananthapuram: Health Minister K K Shailaja stated that Attukal Pongala festival cannot be postponed as all arrangements for the festival has been completed. As five positive cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19) has been confirmed in Kerala, the minister informed that people have to be cautious while taking part in the Pongala festival which is to be held on Monday.
People having symptoms of the disease like cough, fever or breathing trouble have been advised to stay away from the festival. Arrangements have been made for foreigners to take part in Pongala at the hotels they are staying in.
Devaswom officials would be asked to ensure that people with fever or any other symptoms do not participate in the festivity. Medical stall and ambulances will be stationed near the temple complex.
The minister informed that medical teams have been arranged on the premises of the festival area and control rooms opened. Also, video coverage of the people participating in Pongala festival will be ensured as part of precautionary measures.
The new cases of Coronavirus were reported from Pathanamthitta. A family of three flew in from Italy and two of their relatives were affected with the virus. The health department is trying to trace those who came in contact with these people recently in order to contain the spread of the disease.
