People travelling abroad to be given Covishield vaccine
Thiruvananthapuram: People who are going abroad for education and employment purposes will be provided Covishield vaccine. The state government will also give them a vaccination certificate in which their passport number is recorded for further reference.
Those who received the first dose of vaccine will be given the second dose within 4-6 weeks after verifying their travel documents. The District Medical Officers are directed to issue the certificate in a specified format.
Visa, admission documents of students, job confirmation or work permit of employees and their required documents should be produced before the authorities.
Currently, vaccine is administered after registering in the CoWin portal of the central government. Vaccination certificate also is issued from this.
Some foreign countries demand that the certificate should include passport number. Though the state requested that the certificate format should be changed to include this, the Centre has not considered this yet.
As Covaxin is not included in the list of Covid vaccines released by some foreign countries, the journey of those who received Covaxin also is affected.
Some other countries recommend that the certificate should specify the brand name Oxford AstraZeneca instead of the name Covishield. This also has been brought to the attention of the Centre, the health department officials said.
The vaccine doses which the state purchased directly from the companies for vaccinating the people aged between 18-45 years will be given to the people travelling abroad.
